What If You Could Talk to Your Past Self?
A new series about the conversations we wish we could have—and what happens when we finally get the chance.
Some questions linger longer than they should.
What if I had said something different?
What if I’d left sooner—or stayed longer?
What if I could go back and warn myself?
Or forgive myself?
But most of all:
What if I could sit down and talk to the person I used to be?
That’s the seed behind a new project I’m starting today.
It’s called Versions of Me, unlike anything I’ve done on this platform. It’s fiction, yes—but barely. It’s a serialized story told alongside my weekly essays.
At the center of it is Alex, a person invited to participate in a strange experiment called The Recall—a protocol that allows them to meet face-to-face with their younger selves.
Not to change the past.
Not to fix anything.
To have the conversation they never had when it mattered most, or to learn something about themselves.
Each episode is a standalone moment—a strange, sometimes uncomfortable reunion with a former version of themselves: the child who stopped drawing, the teenager who built walls, the twenty-something who chased meaning in all the wrong places.
It’s funny at times. Raw at others. And hopefully, familiar in the way that only truth disguised as fiction can be.
If you’ve ever wished for a do-over—or at least a debrief—this one’s for you.
How It Works
A new episode will drop weekly, just like the rest of BTC.
The first four episodes will be free and open to everyone.
After that, the rest of the series will be available only to paid subscribers—a little time capsule with a lock.
This isn’t a departure from what I usually write—it’s more like an alternate route through the same territory. Emotional terrain. Self-inquiry. Memory. The ghosts we carry.
If you’ve been here a while, thank you.
If you’re new, welcome.
If you’ve ever wanted to talk to your past self, you’re in the right place.
